Eddie had been planning on coming out to visit and ride for a while and seeing as his visit coincided with Nikki and the kids visiting London I thought it only right and proper for us to embark on a daft adventure.
Now Eddie had never done any bikepacking and we only had the weekend in which to ride and so naturally I decided that we should attempt the TMB (Tour of Mont Blanc) – a 170km circumnavigation of Mont Blanc that is normally ridden over 5 days.
Needless to say that things didn’t go according to plan!
I downloaded the wrong route (hiking not biking), we set off too late on the first day and so couldn’t get to where we wanted to before dark.
We took two taxi rides to get back on track but once out of Italy and into Switzerland we realised that we were unlikely to make it back that same day.
Luckily we took a wrong turn and ended up in Martigny where we jumped on the train back to the border with France and then rode back into Chamonix in time for last orders at MBC – result!
