A few days ago I headed back to the Ardeche to show a Swiss couple round the farm.
I took the opportunity to do some non-snow riding by way of preparation for tomorrow’s ‘There n Back’ bikepacking event in Wales.
The weather was awful throughout the drive over but weirdly it brightened up just before my ride and stayed dry for the duration – result!
Here’s is a dumb photo of me near the beginning of the first big climb (a killer):
…and here’s a shot of the profile of the first climb – mean:
I took the Santa Cruz as I never really got much of a chance to ride it before the winter arrived and so riding it on trails I know like the back of my hand seemed like a good way to discover more about my newest bike and to have a crap-load of fun at the same time!
It rode really well and I’m already earger and waiting for the silly winter to bugger off so that I can really give some welly in the Alps.
Here she is in all her glory:
I’m about to leave to drive to Wales (literally. I leave in 45 minutes) ready for the years first bikepacking trip this coming weekend.
There’ll be a bunch of odd-ball bikepacking types roaming around the Welsh mountains looking lost, covered in mud and asking about where the nearest Spar shop is – if you come across any then have a look under all the mud as one of them will be me!
As usual I’m un-fit, under prepared and undecided as to which bits of kit I’m be taking for the weekend as I’ve simply had no time to dedicate to planning this trip and so I’m hoping that my ‘chuck some bits in some bags’ approach won’t leave me too screwed come Saturday night – we’ll see.
